“The hotel industry of Manabi is destroyed”

The earthquake left pain, death and a hard blow to tourism. The recovery will be complicated and expensive. The director of the Chamber of Tourism of Manabi Alex Molina estimated that only the hotel sector will need between 600 and 800 million dollars to re-build the destroyed infrastructure across the province (excluding tourism promotion).
According to figures from the Secretariat of Risk Management, only in Pedernales, Manta and Portoviejo 42 tourist establishments collpsed.
Manabi, the fourth province that raised more taxes from hotels and restaurants in 2014. It is (or was) the second with the highest number of accommodations in the same year. However, although the impact is focused on part of the coastal profile of Manabi and Esmeraldas, the impact is national.
