Ecuadornews:
The National Chamber of Fisheries (CNP for its Spanish acronym), that groups companies in the tuna industry, requested “the Chinese government the immediate abandonment of its fleet in the area.”
The order comes after the detection of some 300 Chinese fishing vessels near the Exclusive Economic Zone, an area rich in migratory species of the Archipelago.
Through a statement, the union expressed its “concern” and “outrage” regarding the magnitude of this problem, at a time when the fishing season is closed.
The Fishery Chamber demanded administrative, civil and criminal penalties for the Fu Yuang Yu Leng 999 vessel, captured in the Marine Reserve. It also requested the immediate contracting of the expansion of the platform for satellite control services by the Navy.
Last night, President Lenin Moreno described recent facts as a crime. He said that he has arranged for the foreign minister to carry out the diplomatic and juridical efforts so that neither this fishing fleet nor any other fishing fleet harms the Ecuadorean natural wealth. “Any vessel or fleet that illegally fishes in our territorial sea will be immediately detained,” he added.
