The president gives clues with his first pardon
Ecuadornews:

They have hope. The indigenous leadership sees as a positive sign the pardon granted by the President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno, to Patricio Meza. He was serving a six-month sentence for the offense of attack and resistance, in Pastaza.
His name was on the list of 20 possible pardoned the Conaie handed over to the Government on May 30. These cases, the officials said, will be analyzed one by one.
Katty Betancourt, Women’s leader of the organization, told EXPRESO Diary that this is a sign of political will. “Moreno is making a recognition to the social fighters as an important part for the construction of democracy, while the Correa government criminalized social protest” she said.
Part of that indigenous hope has an explanation. The decree signed by Moreno to grant the pardon says that “Ecuadorian citizens are heirs of the social struggles of liberation”.
The social movements believe that, with that phrase, their right to protest is recognized, which was so questioned in the previous administration. (I)
