The Prosecutor’s Office expects that US. respect the extradition of the Isaias brothers

Almost two years after the condemning of the brothers Roberto and William Isaias, the National Court of Justice (NCJ) ratified yesterday, March 13, the ruling that sentence to 8 years in prison the former owners of Filanbanco on charges of embezzlement.

This resolution, according to the prosecution, will serve for Ecuador to insist on the request for extradition of the brothers, who are in the United States since 2000. The Attorney General, Galo Chiriboga, announced that next Tuesday he is planning to travel to the United States to make efforts on this case.
The expectation is that the US. respect the decision of the national court. In June of last year, the United States Department of State reported that its country is not able to proceed with that request since there is no evidence that the Isaias brothers deliberately participated in the planning of embezzlement, or distracted Central Bank funds in amount of specified money.
The Criminal Chamber, composed of judges Paul Iniguez, Johnny Ayluardo and Ximena Vintimilla, considered that there is sufficient evidence to keep the sentence.
