The Santa Elena COE takes precautions to the arrival of El Niño
In the province of Santa Elena Authorities of the Emerging Operations Committee (COE in its Spanish acronym) initiated meetings to avoid possible consequences of El Niño current.
The meeting served to structure seven technical working groups. Each has a specific purpose. The Department of Risk Management (SGR in its Spanish acronym) has accompanied the work of each, focusing to fulfill its role, minimizing the risks this way.
Among the taken measures are: The designartion of 35 shelters across the province; among them are two great sites, the Alberto Spencer Stadium (where 5,000 people can be accommodated) and the José Francisco Cevallos sports complex (which a capacity for 1,140 refugees). Both areas are located in the capital, Santa Elena.
The Ministry of Education jointly with the SGR is training teachers that head student risk fields, so they can impart to their students precaution tips for their families.
