The six women assaulted by the Turkish guard took their case to UN Women

“May the defenselessness state of women gain visibility.” This was the slogan taken to UN Women by a group of women attacked by the guard of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on February 4, during his visit to Ecuador.
They spent almost an hour at the headquarters of the organization. Their complaint was that the “state has not responded against violence,” said Pilar Rassa, of the Women’s Platform.
They had no luck. UN Women showed solidarity with them but indicated this is not its competence. The recommendation was to resort to bodies such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women or special rapporteurs. They will analyze the alternatives, said Cristina Cachaguay, of Women for Change.
