People who receive a salary equal to or higher than USD 1 000 will have to contribute with a day of their salary or more, according to their remuneration, in order to assist the reconstruction of the areas affected by the earthquake. Companies are ready to make the retention.

The so-called solidarity contribution on remunerations will be reflected on the payroll of the workers from today, June 30. This contribution is envisaged in the Law on Solidarity and Co-responsability, proposed after the earthquake that struck Manabi and Esmeraldas. Miriam Velasco is a teacher and receives a monthly salary of US $ 1 080. The discount will be, in her case, of a day’s pay for a month, equivalent to USD 36. The teacher agrees with the discount. “It’s a contribution that will be used to help those who lost everything in the earthquake.”
