The textile industry is the second largest in Ecuador, which generates more jobs, with 174,125 jobs representing 21% of the country’s manufacturing sector, said on Wednesday the Minister of Industry and Productivity, Santiago Leon.
The sales of the textile sector were USD 1 313 million in 2016 and accounted for 5% of the manufacturing sector, Leon stated, adding that this is a priority area for the national economy, which accounted for 8% of the Industrial gross domestic product (GDP) between 2007 and 2015.
The minister disclosed this information during the inauguration of the seventh edition of the Textile, Machinery, and Supplies Exhibition (Xpotex), a fair that brings together national and international companies until this Friday at the Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises of Pichincha.
