The transport sector complains of the lack of road maintenance
Posted On 02 Mar 2017

The transport sector suffers the collateral damages of the landslides and the destruction of state roads cause by the intense rains of the winter season.
The forced closure of the roads because of these events harms 8,000 units of a hundred heavy-duty companies and 12,000 vehicles of 360 intercontinental and inter-provincial passenger cooperatives operating in the country.
Difficulties occur more frequently in the Highlands and the Amazon roads. Jomaira Sánchez, president of the federation of transporters, cites, for example, the axes that lead to Quito, Ambato and Riobamba from Guayaquil.
The troubles, she says, appear especially when vehicles that carry perishable cargo can not pass. She mentions that in the Coast, on the other hand, the transport faces risks when the overflow of the rivers arrives until the tracks, and because of that situation traffic accidents have occurred.
