More than a week after the end of the national strike, which lasted 18 days, the United States decided to improve the travel alert for Ecuador.
The United States Government upgraded the travel rating for Ecuador from level 3 to level 2. The decision was reported on July 11, 2022.
That means that the recommendation to travel to Ecuador went from “Reconsider your trip” to “Use greater caution” .
In June, the United States established a risk level 3 for Ecuador because the strike meant a problem for travelers due to the ” closure of local roads and main highways, often without prior notice or estimated reopening times.”
With level 2, the Government asks travelers from the United States to be careful when traveling to Ecuador “due to crime.”
The United States is the country from which more tourists arrive to Ecuador.
More than 269,000 Americans arrived in Ecuador in 2021, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
