The winding path of the correístas to the sectionals

Posted On 12 Jun 2018

Ecuadornews:

They do not close the door. The correísmo, now grouped in the National Agreement movement (MANA), does not rule out participating in the sectional elections of 2019, but it knows that it will not be easy. The lack of a political platform and a large number of cadres in the localities pushes them to think about each step before launching a candidacy. For this, they draw a strategy.

There are three aspects that will be considered for a probable participation in certain provinces, not in all, says Bairon Valle, Assemblyman and National Agreement leader: the results of the popular consultation, the measurement of certain tables, through surveys, and the registration of MANA.

The first will allow you to know in which cantons and provinces are strong; and the second, the chances of winning that would have their potential applicants. While the third is the most complicated of all, but Valle does not rule out seeking the support of national or local organizations that sponsor their candidacies. “They are ideas. They are postures. Our priority is the collection of signatures, “he says.

EXPRESO, in its edition of yesterday, published the declarations of the mayor of Durán, Alexandra Arce, in which she confessed that she will not present her candidacy for re-election with another movement that is not a National Agreement, casting doubt on the participation of the Correistas in the sectionals Valle points out that Arce’s position is personal and not general.

Lídice Aldás, councilor of Guayaquil and also member of MANA, prefers not to condition a possible re-election to the registration or not of the movement, but to the decision adopted by the national leadership. “One can have personal aspirations, but it is the movement that will define the people who would assume again or for the first time the challenge of being local authorities.”

The participation or not of MANA in the sectional elections will have an impact on the electoral board. The political consultant Daniel Mendoza concludes that the incursion of a candidate of the correísmo in any jurisdiction will affect the one of the tendency. But “in the case of the Mayor of Guayaquil, if a picture of the correísmo for that dignity comes out, it would subtract Jimmy Jairala”.

Between July and August, the national leadership of MANA expects to begin the analysis of the probable participation in the sectionals. It is not a closed door, but the doubt still remains. (I)
