Ecuadornews:
The reduction of the control time of those who arrive in the country are the primary objectives of the new devices in the airport Jose Joaquin de Olmedo, that since yesterday scan the passports of tourists and immediately establish the levels of safety that should be considered in the revision of luggage.
The system has been used in Quito for two and a half months with optimum results, said Marco Andino, director general of the National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae). The system is connected to national and international security agencies. When scanning the document, three alert levels are set: green, yellow and red. In the first one, the luggage is not checked, whereas in the other two a more detailed check is carried out.
Andino asserted that the new system would reduce to 80% the time of tourists entry. That is, what could take up to an hour and a half, decreases to just 20 minutes. “The physical inspection goes from 98% to 2%.” (I)
