Toachi-Pilatón has an advance of 62% in one year of delay
Even though the Toachi-Pilatón hydroelectric project, located two hours from Quito, has a steadily progress in its works, it has a near one-year delay. The works are performed in 10 different fronts between km 59 and 76 of the Alóag-Santo Domingo route.
The project has an advance of 62%. Although listed as one of the eight hydroelectric plants under construction in the country, the Toachi-Pilatón actually consists of three plants.
The manager of the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (Celec), Eduardo Barredo, extended the deadline for the delivery of civil works in 315 days. It should have been ready last month.
Barredo explained that three factors led to the delay. First, the powerhouse of Central Alluriquín had To be relocated because a fault in the planned place was initially found. Second, the spillway of the dam Toachi was changed to avoid detachment of the slopes. And finally, the contractors did not find solid rocks enough to advance with agility.
