On Monday, the dancers from Guayaquil, Duval Barrezueta and Vanessa Batallas, traveled to Buenos Aires, who will participate in the Tango World Championship in Argentina, which will run from Friday 10 to Thursday 23 August.
With great enthusiasm this expert in milongas told this newspaper that they will have the participation of another couple who will also represent Ecuador. It is the manabita Maritza Intriago, who was her dancing partner in the 2013 competition and that for this occasion will be accompanied by the Argentine Gastón Robles.
She has been living in Argentina since 2015, where she studies folklore with a mention in tango at the National University of the Arts and where she also works as a dancer for the university company.
While Robles is a professional dancer, graduated in this same entity. He has toured not only in countries of the region but also in Europe.
Barrezueta and Batallas will compete for this world in tango of track, while Intriago and Robles will do it in stage tango. “This is the first time in the history of Ecuador that two couples from the country will go to the Tango Argentina 2018 World Cup. I can tell you that we are happy and not so nervous,” says Duval, who brought dancing tango to Guayaquil to develop milongas 17 years ago, and this year he makes them at Tanguito restaurant, located in central Urdesa.
“We are going to concentrate on orchestras, we are already taking the steps because we rehearse almost two hours a week,” Duval told the newspaper in March.
Two styles will be developed in this tournament: the stage and the lounge. The first consists of an unprecedented choreography of the couple, while the second is performed under a free style that the jury will decide at the time.
Orchestral themes such as Carlos Di Sarli, Juan D’Arienzo or Alfredo D’Angelis are the ones commonly used in this contest. (I)
