UN reminds the Government of Ecuador the right to free expression

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ra’ad Zeid al Hussein, “urged” Caracas and Bogota today to ensure that Colombians deported from Venezuela who have been separated from their families can be reunited.
But he also talked about the situation in Ecuador. He regretted that the response to recent demonstrations in Ecuador has not been of the same order, and that repression, the excessive use of force and arbitrary arrests by the authorities had been denounced.
“I remind the government that people have the right to freedom of speech and free expression.”
