Unesco endorsed the inscription of the Dry Forest in Ecuador
The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco) delivered the certificate that supports theregistration of Bosque Seco (Dry Forest by its Spanish name) in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador (MAE).
At an event held last Thursday, Lorena Tapia, Environment Minister, received the document from Saadia Sánchez Vegas, Director of the Office of Unesco in Quito and representative for Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
According to Tapia, the Bosque Seco Biosphere Reserve is the result of public policies that prioritize the environmental issue, while the membership of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves provides access to benefits that enhance economic activity with sustainability criteria, as tourism in the case of Bosque Seco, which strengthens the capacities of communities.
