United States supports criminal proceedings
The pandemic that unleashed the covid-19 forced the Police to face new challenges, not only in terms of security, but also in the controls that the health emergency demands.
That was the reflection of María Paula Romo, Minister of Government , who pointed out that in this crisis, the police force took on “painful tasks” such as picking up bodies and identifying bodies.
With this introduction, Romo thanked France for supporting the National Police.
Yesterday morning, Jean-Baptiste Chauvin, French ambassador to Ecuador, delivered 400 biosafety suits to the institution so that the gendarmes operate in safe conditions.
General Patricio Carrillo, Police Commander, witnessed the meeting along with Vice Minister Patricio Pazmiño and other guests.
The delivery of supplies was made in the Temple to the Heroes of the National Police, in front of the Command. There, Romo took the opportunity to refer to the corruption cases that have been discovered during the emergency.
One of the pending events was the retention of Alfredo Adum, owner of a plane where Daniel Salcedo had an accident, indicated in cases of embezzlement in IESS hospitals.
Romo warned that Adum is under medical observation so he will be questioned in the next few hours.
The minister also referred to the request for asylum to the United States made by Dalo Bucaram and his wife Gabriela Pazmiño, who have an arrest warrant.
On this matter, Romo reiterated that Ecuador has a good relationship with that country in the fight against impunity and there is permanent exchange of information in criminal proceedings through the judicial authorities.
Lastly, the official said that work is ongoing with the Prosecutor’s Office to locate mafias that profit from the health of Ecuadorians. Therefore, she urged the judicial authorities to help in the punishment of those involved.
“It is expected that, with the determined collaboration of the Police, the task that the judges fulfill will allow us to find those who have been involved in irregularities through networks,” he said. (I)
