Universidad Catolica lost against Macara, and Emelec takes a breath
The “Saints” couldn’t win against the Ambato team and just got a tie of 1-1, and fail to move further away from Emelec in the standings. In addition, like the bule-team last night in Cuenca, Catolica missed a penalty by Martinez, who was rejected by goalkeaper Mora.
With the tie, Universidad Catolica has 29 points (+12), two less than Emelec who has 27 thanks to the tie with Deportivo Cuenca in the Alejandro Serrano Aguilar stadium.
Both teams will play in the next date in the Capwell Stadium, which is expected to be full of fans due the expectation on the result, that could mark the end of the championship. If Catolica wins, they almost certainly would outline as winners of the second stage and it would contest the final of the championship with Emelec, who was the winner of the first stage. In the other hand, if the blue team wins, they would become straight champions.
The championship will resume on October 20, after the national selection matches against Uruguay (11) and Chile (15) for the South American qualifiers for the World Cup Brazil 2014.
