Ecuadornews:
The funds allocated to the state universities in the 2017 budget amount to $ 1,192 million, according to the document analyzed in the Legislature. However, the values are a 16,09% less than the Codified Budget of 2016, since this amount reached $ 1,421.02 million last year.
From the analysis of the figures, it is also possible to conclude that the allotment, at the moment, is 5.2% more than what was executed in 2016.
Therefore, several presidents of universities in the country were surprised by the budget cuts. The topic was debated within the Education Commission, chaired by Legislator Augusto Espinosa (AP).
President of Universidad de Quevedo Eduardo Diaz explained that last year the state granted $ 25.7 million to the institution, but this year $ 24.2 million was allocated.
For the academic, the immediate problem that could generate this cut is the closure of the preparatory or leveling course.
He explained that there would be no resources to pay the staff. (I)
