Volkswagen will not have problems in Ecuador

The controversy over the manipulation of greenhouse gas emissions that has shaken Volkswagen this week is far from Ecuador. Not only because it originated in the US but because in the country, the regulations governing emission limits were established in 1996 allow levels that are now in question in Europe and the US.
This was explained by Manuel Murtinho, manager of the Ecuadorian Automotive Association, by mentioning that the Euro II standard is the one that governs in Ecuador and that all cars entering the country meet the Euro V standard.
Volkswagen was in talks with the Government of Ecuador to open an assembly plant in the country and this was confirmed by Minister Nathalie Cely in an interview. No details transcended of a potential agreement, as there was a confidentiality clause.
For now, Volkswagen’s presence in Ecuador focuses on the sale of imported cars, (14 models). Due to the lack of information by the company, the catalog of vehicles with their specifications is available on its website.
