Water concessions will be under review

According to the Water Resources draft, 360 days after the publication of the regulations in the Official Record, the Unique Water Authority should review concessions of usage rights  and water use, given with the previous law. This is a provision that the Executive should obey within two years from the effective date of the current Constitution, according to the twenty-seventh transitional. With the first transient of the new law its fulfillment is recalled.

The work of reviewing the situation of irrigation water access, to reorganize the granting of concessions and avoid abuse and inequities in rates of use must be made in order to ensure a more equitable distribution.

“All that were named concessions, today authorizations, have to be checked again because there are serious problems of hoarding, I think there are 1,700 concessions  of a total of 70,000  controlling 72% of the flow”, said Miguel Carvajal, president of the Committee on Food Sovereignty, in a radio interview.
