Weather Affects Agricultural Sector
Posted On 11 Nov 2010
Low temperatures and the absence of light have affected the agricultural sector of the Ecuadorian coast. Due to cold weather, the crops of rice, mango, cacao, melon, watermelon, corn and soybeans have problems with pests, fungus and diseases.
In Daule, the rice crops are the most damaged; rice production has fallen by 50%.
Meanwhile, farmers have decided to take precautionary measures such as increasing fertilizer doses so that the plants continue growing and to prevent plant wilt because of the lack of sunlight or the cold weather.
