The Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL) granted on January 29, 2016 a doctorate honoris causa to former President Rodrigo Borja Cevallos, for his academic merit and specific support to the educational institution.
The ceremony was attended by former militants of the Democratic Left (ID), former presidents Gustavo Noboa and Alfredo Palacio; three mayors and other local authorities to witness the return, after 25 years, of Borja to the university campus he inaugurated in 1991, when he was president.
Although he did not talk about the current situation in the country, he spent several minutes talking about how modern times and technology have changed the way of doing politics. “It seems that the best thinker is not often the one that succeeds in electoral tournaments, but the best istriú.”
I miss those days when the crowd was present, they are no longer present, not just in Ecuador but also abroad, there is no longer mass rallies,” he added.
He preferred, however, not to comment on the position to be taken by the ID before Unity meetings convened by various groups, he leaves it in the hands of the current party leadership.
Borja insisted that he is officially retired from political life.
