With decree 1244, the Government creates Postal Services of Ecuador to replace Correos del Ecuador

Correos del Ecuador (CDE EP) will be definitively liquidated and at the same time a part will become the new company Servicios Postales del Ecuador (SPE EP). The measure aims to guarantee the continuity of the Universal Postal Service (SPU) in the country under a new management model.
With decree 1244, the Government creates Postal Services of Ecuador to replace Correos del Ecuador
This was decided by the Government that has just issued Executive Decree 1244. According to an official statement, the new management model foresees the participation of strategic partners specialized in transportation and parcel distribution. “This will contribute to the offer of a quality, timely and low-cost postal service.”
In relation to the CDE EP employees, a trained group will be formed that will transfer their knowledge and skills to the staff of the new public company. “The other employees will receive liquidation according to the law with funds from the EMCO Investment Project,” it was explained. Those interested in working in the new entity must apply.
The Government recalled that the liquidation of the CDE company was due to its lack of liquidity, to the fact that it does not have a real and audited balance sheet and that the lack of registration and reconciliation of assets, the overvaluation of obligations and the existence of of unrecorded liabilities for an amount of $ 8.4 million.
