Worldwide effort to help the victims of the earthquake in Nepal
Following the 7.8 degrees magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, airplanes with humanitarian aid cargo have landed today to that India city. Governments and international organizations have pledged support. 1,883 dead and 4,655 wounded is the balance of this natural disaster.
Tents, medicines, water, food and portable stoves were offered by the government of Spain and charity organizations for about 500 families, while the Asia Development Bank will provide $ 3 million for vital Supplies. 200 million will be similarly granted for the reconstruction of the country.
“Right now the main needs are rescuing people and deliver food, water and shelter to the affected,” said Mariona Minet, of the Oxfam Intermon organization, who also indicated that the number of people sleeping on the streets is growing, since they fear new aftershocks.
“The government has asked them not to return to their homes because there have been 65 aftershocks since the quake. The water service and electricity are interrupted, so the water delivery is urgent.” British volunteers, Israeli military aircraft with supplies and charity organizations such as MAP International, fromthe US, are collaborating in these moments of tragedy.
