Artisanal mining, a new vision for mining activity in indigenous communities
‘Solaris Resources’ and the directors of the Artisanal Mining Association ‘ArcoIris’, made up of people from the Shuar community of Warints, met this Friday, October 15 at the ‘Sheraton’ hotel to sign an artisanal mining agreement for take care of the environment and the rights of the indigenous communities of the Amazon, where copper is exploited.

The Warintza Project was proposed to mark a before and after in the development of artisanal mining.
The international company signed an agreement with the company PACT INTERNATIONAL, an international development organization that operates in 40 countries with experience in indigenous communities.
Federico Velásquez, vice president of ‘Solaris Resources’, affirmed that “with the support of the National Government to work together in the reform of the regulations of the artisanal mining law, it will help to decipher the ancestral mining potential”.
The objective of the program is based on the Warintza model, in which a dialogue table was created with the Shuar centers Warints and Yawi, in the Cordillera del Cóndor. In addition to having a sustainable coordination with stakeholders such as the Government, civil society and the communities of the province of Morona Santiago.
PACT INTERNATIONAL will provide consulting and implementation services to support the conscientious artisanal mining strategy. ‘Solaris Resources’ and ‘PACT’ believe that individuals should benefit from the responsible use of mineral resources.
