Ecuador, listed as a “partly free” country
During 2013, Venezuelans, Dominicans and Panamanians underwent a notable deterioration in terms of respect for human freedoms. Meanwhile, Nicaraguans experienced a remarkable improvement.
An annual report on freedoms in the planet made by the organization Freedom House ranked 10 countries, partly free in the Western hemisphere.
According to the results, Ecuador is located next to Venezuela, since both Governments are defined as a government of modern authoritarianism, since they hold elections but unduly control institutions to neutralize the opposition.
Other Nations were described as partially free as Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and Paraguay; and Chile and Uruguay as robust democracies on the continent. The Group of free countries also included Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Peru.
