The Economist says that Correa may be a Main Character in 2013.
“With the Castro brothers in the autumn of their days and the banishing star of Chavez in 2013 (Correa) could assume the role of irritated Chief to the United States, south of the border.”
The Economist also expressed that the “Ecuadorian President like Chavez has used oil incomes to finance social spending in electoral campaigns while launching attacks on U.S. With its fresh image he looks like the best candidate to be the next leader.”
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino and Secretary of Peoples Mireya Cardenas believed that The Economist named Correa has person of the year and reported the news’ on Twitter. The issue caused a huge backlash on social networks, where hundreds scoffed at those government officials.
Even the controversial and known politician @lolacienfuegos also made the mistake. Among the tweets in mocking response is one that tell Mireya Cardenas: “lady dont make a mistake:” 2013 IN PERSON, IS NOT THE SAME AS PERSON OF THE YEAR 2013.”
